Crowns and Bridges

At Cedar Ridge Esthetic & Family Dentistry, the restorative treatment services that we offer are the best and most modern forms of care. In our Urbandale, Iowa office, we stay updated on all of the newest and most beneficial dental technologies that allow us to provide you with exquisite restorative dental pieces. When it comes to restoring your smile, there are different treatments we can perform depending on the type of issue at hand. Two of our most popular restorative treatments are dental crowns and dental bridges.

Dental Crown

If one of your teeth has experienced a severe cavity and is unable to hold a filling after the cavity is removed, we might suggest the placement of a dental crown. A crown is an artificial porcelain tooth cap that is made to look identical to your surrounding natural teeth in size and shade.

Once the major cavity has been removed, we will take a digital impression of the remaining portion of your tooth using our iTero Scanner. This scanner will allow a 3d impression to be made which will be used in customizing your porcelain dental crown.

When the crown has been made in our dental lab, we will bond it over the remaining portion of your tooth. With this bonding material, the crown will be securely fastened into your smile but might need to be rebonded in the future due to wear and tear.

Dental Bridge

Similar to the dental crown, the dental bridge is used to replace the look and function of a natural tooth that has been lost. The only difference between the two is that a dental bridge is made up of at least 3 artificial teeth; the middle tooth replaces the missing tooth, and then two anchor teeth on each end secure the bridge to your smile.

The anchor teeth on either side of the bridge are made like dental crowns, and are designed to be bonded to existing teeth to provide support for the entire dental piece.

Crown and Bridge Benefits

  • When restoring a tooth or even multiple teeth, you want it to fit well in your mouth and match all surrounding teeth. With our porcelain crowns and bridges, we can make each piece look and feel just as beautiful as your natural teeth.

  • There are other options when replacing a tooth that requires oral surgery. With these two restoration treatments, no surgery is needed and your tooth will be replaced quickly.

  • The porcelain material allows the new artificial teeth to be resistant to cavities and decay. Brushing, flossing, and regular dental checkups are still highly recommended when taking care of crowns and bridges.
